Author, chef and TV show host, Lara Lyn Carter chats with us about her cookbook, Southern Thymes Shared. She blends her family recipes with stories of growing up in the south and puts a healthy spin on southern food using seasonal ingredients. (image credit: Lara Lyn Carter)
In her book she dispels the myth that all southern food is fried and, surprisingly, recipes have suggested wine pairings with them.
“Most people think that southern food is supposed to be paired with sweet tea. But in this book I’ve got wine pairings too.”
What’s unique about this cookbook:
- The cookbook highlights the diversity in southern cuisine.
- Lara Lyn realizes that not everyone grew up cooking. Recipes are arranged by season / occasion. You don’t have to think about what side dishes to pair with recipes.
- Suggested wine pairings are included.
What else did we discuss? Lara Lyn has a line of marinades and sauces called Wicker and Whisk. She developed these versatile sauces and marinades over the years and they are often requested by her friends and family, when she cooks. There are new recipes added on her site, using these products. Cheddar fondue with port wine sauce? Yep, we talked about that!
